Mesa Vega

This dining table, designed in house by Ronald Hernandez, began with the wood. Sapelli mahogany, stained by hand in successive layers over several days, each left to dry before the next; the final tone was not applied so much as built. The form takes its reference from the torii gate: economy of line, joinery left visible rather than hidden, posts set inboard of the ends so the top runs past them and the corners stay open. The chairs are Karimoku, imported from Japan. Their light frames and pale seats hold against the weight of the mahogany. Two workshops, two woods, one standard of execution.
